Weekly Newsletter | October 15, 2025
Dear Bromfield Middle School Families,

As our unseasonably warm weather finally begins to give way to cooler days, it seems a good time to share how we handle lunch recess here at TBMS. Whenever possible, we get students outside for some fresh air and movement. To their credit, many students want to go out, and it’s wonderful to see their energy and joy as they play various versions of four square, soccer, football, volleyball, and countless other games. To ensure comfort and safety, all students should keep layers on hand. If the past is any indication, many kids will keep braving the elements well into winter. So please help your child come prepared for whatever the weather may bring!

I’d also like to take a moment to review our communication protocol between home and school. When questions or concerns about curriculum or classroom activities arise, the best first step is to reach out directly to your child’s teacher. They are in the best position to clarify, explain, or address the issue. If, after that conversation, questions remain or additional support is needed, please don’t hesitate to contact me or Dr. Horton. We deeply appreciate your partnership and your respect for the collaborative relationships that make our school community strong.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mr. Daniel Hudder
Bromfield Middle School Principal

WEEKLY UPDATES

SIXTH GRADE

In Math 6, students finished Module 3, Dividing Fractions.  This week, during a FLEX block, students will either review, apply, or delve deeper into this skill with challenge questions.

We are now a few lessons into Module 4, Multi-Digit Decimal Operations, where sixth graders add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to the thousandths place and apply these strategies using real-world problems.

Flex period continues to grow more academically focused as we introduce Tier 2 interventions, giving students targeted support in small groups to help them progress in essential skill areas. Teachers will use FLEX time to guide students through practice and reinforcement while monitoring their growth to ensure success. These changes mean students will spend more time on academic activities during this block, making the most of every opportunity to learn and advance. As we strive for balance, students will also enjoy creative opportunities, including the kickoff of our grade-wide door decorating contest—an event designed to foster community spirit and teamwork. Thank you for encouraging your student to engage fully in FLEX, both academically and creatively!

SEVENTH GRADE

Seventh-grade math students have been exploring percents and how to solve them using both proportions and equations. This week, our focus shifts to Percent Change, Percent Error, and Percent Markups and Markdowns—including tax, tip, and discounts. Next week, we'll dive into Simple Interest and then apply all our percent skills in a fun, hands-on Percent Food Truck project, where students will take and calculate orders from their classmates.

During Flex this week, students completed their second rotation of Math Plus. They continued to strengthen and deepen their understanding of the unit standards. As part of this work, they were given the opportunity to improve their original quiz grades by demonstrating their increased mastery of the material. In addition to the Math Plus lessons, students had two academic support days to prepare for upcoming assessments, retake quizzes, and meet with teachers to discuss assignments.

As the weather gets cooler please remind your student to bring appropriate layers to school for going outside. The students have the opportunity to go outside during lunch and also during our common time.

EIGHTH GRADE

Students just finished their first unit of the school year in math and have moved on to unit 2 where we will greatly focus on rates of change, linear equations and linear functions. Students will begin by analyzing graphs and finding intercepts using the equation of a line as well as a graph. In flex, students continued to work on reading and math while also having an academic day and executive functioning day to help students get organized.

UNIFIED ARTS

In health class, sixth graders are in the middle of their Social-Emotional Health unit, where we’re learning all about emotions and how to understand and manage them in healthy ways. We’re watching Inside Out 2 and completing creative projects and activities that connect to the movie’s themes of growing up and navigating new feelings.

Seventh graders have jumped into their Nutrition unit with lots of energy! We’ll be learning about the nutrients in our food with an exploratory food scavenger hunt. We’ll also have thoughtful discussions about what influences the foods we choose. Soon, we will be sharing foods and traditions from different cultures through a fun and interactive research project.

Eighth graders are also focusing on Nutrition, diving deeper into the benefits and functions of each macronutrient, prioritizing balanced eating, and learning about the effects of caffeinated drinks. We’ll also be talking about harmful diet trends to help students think critically about the messages they see in today’s culture.
